Class attendance is absolutely required. Because I understand
that accidents and illnesses happen, I will allow you two
non-emergency absences if--and only if--you complete all
required readings and assignments by the class meeting
following your absence. Each day you miss over two will
constitute an unauthorized absence automatically unless
you make specific arrangements with me in advance.
Please note that an email from the health center does not
authorize additional absences. Short-term illness is the kind of
thing the two authorized absences are meant to accommodate.
Every unauthorized absence will affect your grade. Three absences
will lower your grade by 1/3, four by 2/3, five by a full grade.
More than five absences will constitute failing the course.
If you have extreme emergencies--such as a death in your immediate
family, or an extended illness requiring hospitalization--contact
me to make arrangements for your absence.
Arriving to class sessions on time is also important. Therefore,
every three late entrances to class will count as one absence.
