Attendance and Punctuality

Class attendance is absolutely required, and this class's schedule makes missing even one class consequential. Because I understand that accidents and illnesses happen, I will allow you two non-emergency absences if--and only if--you complete all required readings and assignments by the class meeting following your absence. Additional missed sessions will constitute unauthorized absences automatically unless you make specific arrangements with me in advance.

Every unauthorized absence will affect your grade. A third absence will lower your course grade by 1/3, a fourth by a full grade. Five absences will result in a maximum of half credit for the component of the grade that includes participation; six or more absences will result in failing the course. If you have extreme emergencies--such as a death in your immediate family, or an extended illness requiring hospitalization--contact me to make arrangements for your absence.
