About Me

I am a Professor of English at Grinnell College. My scholarship focuses on the literature of Britain, Ireland, and the United States in the decades surrounding 1800. I teach mainly British and Irish literature from Shakespeare to the present.

I am the Principal Investigator for Grinnell of Digital Bridges for Humanistic Inquiry, a collaboration between Grinnell and the University of Iowa in the digital liberal arts funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. I am also a co-chair of the committee working to plan Grinnell's new Humanities and Social Studies Center.

I grew up in Olean, New York and attended the University of Virginia and the University of Pennsylvania before coming to Grinnell in 2001.
