Abstract Algebra: Theory and Applications. |
I will collect homework at the beginning of class on Mondays and Wednesdays. I won't accept late homework!
You can find the homework assignments posted in the table at the bottom of this page. I will drop your lowest homework grade.
You will also benefit from reading the sections before class.
You will have three in-class exams, on September 23, October 14, and November 16. You may not use
books or notes on exams.
I will give a 10 minute quiz at the beginning of class each Friday (so don't be late!).
On each quiz, you will either need to state a couple definitions or prove something that we proved in class.
As with exams, books and notes are not permitted on quizzes. I will drop your lowest quiz grade.
The final exam is scheduled for 9:00 AM on Thursday, December 17. The final will cover the entirety of the course, with
some extra emphasis on the material from the last few weeks of class.
Don't make flight arrangements or other plans that will require you to take an alternate exam.
(Those who do will lose a letter grade on their exam.)
Quizzes: 10%
Exam average: 30%
Homework: 30%
Final exam: 20%
Maximum of exam average and final exam: 10%
If you have specific physical, psychiatric or learning disabilities and require accommodations, please let me know early in the semester so that your learning needs may be appropriately met. You will need to provide documentation of your disability to the Associate Dean and Director of Academic Advising, Joyce Stern, located in the lower level of the Forum (x3702).
