There will be exams about every other week. Exams will include computational problems and conceptual problems. Your lowest exam grade will not be counted. There will also be a comprehensive final exam on Thursday, December 15 at 2:00 PM. Don't make flight arrangements or other plans that will require you to take an alternate exam. Those who do will lose a letter grade on their exam.
HomeworkDoing homework regularly is essential to learning the
material. Homework is due at the beginning of class. Late homework will
not be accepted.
The grader will grade 3 problems on each homework assignment, on a five
point scale. If your grade is 10 or less, you may redeem up to 3 points.
You should figure out where your error is and what you should have done.
Then come see me during office hours and explain the error. To redeem
points, you must see me before the next class meeting.
Essays, covering conceptual and theoretical questions,
will be assigned about once a week. Essays must be typed, double-spaced,
and handed in on a separate page. They will be graded on the basis of the
quality of your writing as well as content. They should address the
question concisely, in about a page. Essays must not exceed two
pages.
It is normal to spend about 10-12 hours weekly outside of class.
