Text: There is no assigned text for this course. Lecture notes will be posted on P-web as needed. The library has a large collection of text books on mathematical modeling.

Homework:

Homework will be posted on Pioneerweb. A subset of the problems will be graded. You are free to work with your group on a HW assignment, but all students must submit an individual assignment of their own work and credit any assistance they recieved in completing the assignment. If you use the computer extensively for your HW assignment, you should include this in the document you submit.

Projects:

The main focus of this course is the five (or four) projects. These will be completed by a group assigned by the instructor. One grade will be given to the project based on three components: the exectuive summary (20%), the technical report (60%), and the presentation (20%). Each student in a group will assign a set of 100 points across the members of the group resulting in a peer assesment score. The grade given to individuals will be based on the peer assesment and the overall project score. There will be no extensions of the project deadlines for individual groups.

Presentations:

Presentations may take place during class or outside of class at the instructors discretion. To recive the 20% of the project grade, each student in the group must present a portion of the presentation. The presentations will be 7 minutes in length followed a question and answer period. The answers given to the questions will be considered in the grade assigned to the presentation.

Poster Presentation:

Certain Projects will be selected for a joint poster session with MAT 310 tentaively scheduled for Thursday May 10, 11:00am - 1:00pm. Each student will have at least one of their projects selected for this poster session.

Class Participation:

Much of this course will be based on discussion and group activity. Therefore, it is imperative that you attend and actively participate in the class.

Course Grade:
Homework: 10%
Projects: 75% (15% each)
Class Participation: 10%
Cumulative Peer Assesment: 5%

Attendance:

Absences permitted by the college (athletics, performance, religious observation, etc.) must be coordinated prior to the class period in order to make arrangements for the missed homework or exams. This coordination must be done in person prior to the absence.
