Want to make a difference?
Grinnell's long history of activism gets a boost this Saturday as the Voicebox, the college's activist resource center, opens its doors to the Grinnell community.
The Voicebox aims to promote action by students, faculty, staff and community members on political, social and environmental issues. It will provide material resources and institutional support to any groups and individuals who consider themselves activists. The center also hopes to unite activist efforts across student-faculty and town-gown lines, as well as connect Grinnell activists with those at other Midwest schools. By fostering these connections, the Voicebox hopes to improve cooperation and invigorate Grinnell's already thriving activist community.
To better assist local activists, the center is currently developing a public library of books, pamphlets and other media, both related to specific issues and to general organizing. Voicebox historians will continue collecting and organizing records of past Grinnell activism and plan to publish a biannual yearbook highlighting events and campaigns.
